What is an Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA)?
It is an travel authorization granted online through the web based visa system implemented by the Sri Lankan Department of Immigration and Emigration (DI&E).
What types of ETA / eVISAs are available?
An Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA) is issued for short visits to Sri Lanka. There are three different types for ETAs with different purposes: business purposes, tourism, and transit purposes.

Do I need a plane ticket before I apply for an ETA / eVISA?
No, you do not need a ticket when applying for an Electronic Travel Authorization. You can apply for your ETA even before booking your plane ticket.
How do I know if my current ETA is still valid for travel to Sri Lanka?
If you have already applied for an ETA, you can inquire through this site to find out its current status. To check you will your application reference number in order to make this inquiry. You can also contact the 24/7 dedicated ETA call center by calling +94719967888.
How does my airline know that I have a valid visa to travel to Sri Lanka?
You do not need an ETA as this is not a pre-condition to board a flight or vessel to Sri Lanka. However, we recommend getting an ETA before boarding your flight or vessel.
Is my personal information safe?

I already possess a valid visa. What should I do?
If you already possess a valid residence visa for Sri Lanka or multiple entry visa, a new ETA application cannot be started until that visa expires or is cancelled.
If I already possess a valid ETA, do I need to apply for a fresh ETA again?
Your ETA is valid for six (6) months and a new ETA cannot be obtained using the same passport until that ETA expires. If you lose the passport which contains the valid ETA you may apply for a fresh ETA by paying the relevant fee again.
Can I apply for a new ETA while being in Sri Lanka?
You cannot obtain a new ETA while being in Sri Lanka irrespective of whether your ETA is valid or expired.
What happens if my application is rejected?
If your ETA application is rejected, it will be referred to the nearest Sri Lanka overseas mission. You may contact them for further assistance.
If my application for ETA was unsuccessful can I get my processing fee refunded?
No, unfortunately the fee is non-refundable and non-transferable.
What can I do if I make an error in my application?
Once your application is submitted, processed, and a payment is made, you cannot cancel the transaction and the payment cannot be reimbursed. This is why you should ensure that you enter your personal details correctly. If you have made a mistake, it is important that you correct it before confirmation. Once you have confirmed the details, you will be debited for the non-refundable service charge. If you find out later that you have made a mistake, then you will have to submit a new application and pay the relevant fee again.
